Coach Anthony

Your course instructor and college planning guru

Anthony brings immense professional academic experience to his work as a college admissions coach. Previously, Anthony worked as a biochemistry researcher at Villanova University. At the same time, Anthony worked on the orientation team in Villanova University’s office of undergraduate admissions. Combined with his longstanding commitment to students through a variety of tutoring that would help many students see admission to elite schools, this gives him a unique and valuable perspective that he brings to his college essay coaching program. Although his own admissions journey was successful in the sense that he was admitted to Villanova, he felt overwhelmed and misinformed throughout much of the process. Now, as a college planning coach, Anthony is on a mission to ensure that families approach the college admissions process with the confidence, clarity, and support that he wishes he had himself.

What to expect

Creating a Common App essay topic

For most students, the process of creating a viable essay topic is one of the most daunting parts of this process. During this workshop, we will conduct strategic brainstorming exercises, assuring that every student leaves class with a viable essay topic.

Outlining your Common App Essay

The way that you go about discussing your essay topic is just as important as the essay topic itself. That is why we make sure that all of our students leave class with a high detail and strategic outline for their essay.

What admissions officers really want to see in your essay (AKA the do’s and dont’s)

College essays come with endless dos and don'ts, as well as many things that admissions officers like (and don’t) like to see in the essays that they read. Many students are extremely unfamiliar with these complexities, so we use a portion of class to discuss all of these with our students!

Strategy and Narative

In today’s competitive admissions environment, students need to have an overarching narrative that exists in their essays and other application materials. Additionally, admissions strategy (things like EA/ED/RD planning and demonstrated interest) have become increasingly important. These elements can be extremely stressful for many students, so we make sure to break it down during our classes!

The activities section + Additional information

The Common App includes many sections in addition to the main essay. While many students tend to overlook them, many of them contain valuable opportunities to build out a strong narrative. During our workshop, we will fill in students on everything that they can do to fully utilize these sections in their own personal context.
